How To Save Money On Babysitting

Babysitting Services
Read Babysitting Reviews

For many families a large part of their monthly budget is spent on childcare. If you’re a parent who is looking for ways to reduce the amount of money you spend on childcare, there are some simple things you can do to cut down on your babysitting costs:

1. Be prepared when the sitter arrives. Of course the first time you have a new babysitter come to the house you shouldn’t be rushing out the door the minute she arrives without making sure everyone is comfortable, but a lot of time can be wasted by having the sitter arrive too early. If the babysitter arrives at the time you requested, she is on the clock regardless if you are ready or not.

2. Split the cost with friends. If you’re going out with friends who also need babysitting ask your sitter if she would consider watching the kids together for a slightly higher price. If it works out, both of you would end up paying less for the same amount of time.

3. Barter your services. You might have a special skill or talent that a teenager, friend, or other parent would like to learn about. You can offer your services in exchange for babysitting, creating a win-win situation for both parties. I knew of a mother who was a music teacher and gave a teenager from her church private piano lessons in exchange for babysitting hours.

4. Arrange a parent swap. If you have friends with kids or know other parents who also need babysitting for their children, agree to alternate watching each other’s children.

5. Review your childcare expenses. If you take your child to a daycare center, it might be less expensive to have quality in-home care instead. This is especially true if you are paying for multiple children. You can search for local babysitters and nannies in your area using an online matchmaking service like Sittercity, and you’ll be able to determine if this a more cost effective option for your family.
